Edelweiss Wildfire Reporting and Alert System Explained
TO REPORT A FIRE, MAKE 2 PHONE CALLS:
First Call: 911 Edelweiss has NO fire-fighting equipment!
Give 911 your name, phone number, and the fire location. Include the fire location address if known, or describe the distance and direction from notable landmarks.
Then call the EMC Fire Emergency Number: 855-601-0338
Give the PERSON who answers your call, who will be one of our 5 Fire Alert Coordinators, the same information you gave to 911: your name, phone number, and the fire location.
Edelweiss Wildfire Reporting and Alert System Explained
System active Monday August 10
System testing completed on Thursday August 13
Edelweiss has created a Wildfire Emergency Alert System that lets members report fires within or near Edelweiss and receive community alerts by text, phone call, and email, using the contact information in your Edelweiss membership record.
(Download the following instructions as a pdf HERE)
Whenever the system is activated, you will receive simultaneous emergency alerts as phone calls, texts and emails.
Edelweiss (EMC) Wildfire Alert Coordinators
Five EMC community members have volunteered to be Wildfire Alert Coordinators. They have received specialized training. After an emergency call is received, one of the coordinators will initiate an Edelweiss Wildfire alert with details about the fire, including instructions to evacuate, if necessary. This notice may come before you hear from Okanogan County Emergency Management. This is an imperfect system. You may be out of reception or there may be a power outage.
To avoid missing an alert, add EMC Fire Alerts to your phone contacts and FAVORITE THEM:
Calls come from 509-886-3625
Texts come from 855-678-3129 or 561-935-5010
Emails come from alerts@dmc.me (can not reply to this address)
Adding contacts to your phone and making them favorites will help prevent calls from being screened as spam and usually allow calls to ring through when your phone is set to Do Not Disturb.
IF you’re having trouble creating these contacts, please email EMC Alert system Project Coordinator, Jason Edwards, and he can email you the Alert System contact vCard files and instructions how to import the contact files into your phone. It’s easy peasy this way!
Please Note: If you use a call screener, like Verizon Call Filter, and/or an email cleaner, like CleanEmail, add the EMC Fire Alerts numbers and alerts@dmc.me to your screening program(s) so alerts are not blocked.
If you become aware that you missed an EMC Wildfire Alert Message, Please email Jason at emcfirewisewebmaster@gmail.com and he will follow up with a response within 36 hours. The current emergency alert database is missing many correct phone numbers, emails, and names associate residents’ records.

IMPORTANT Emergency Info: County Alerts, Apps, Edelweiss Guests & Avoid Parking in Dry Grass
If you haven’t done so already, register for Okanogan County Emergency Management alerts here.
We recommend downloading the WatchDuty app on your phone to track local fires. You can locate WatchDuty in the Apple or Android App stores.
Do you have guests during fire season? If so, download the EMC Visitor FW Information PDF and share it with your visitors. It’s a good idea to also share the EMC Fire Alert Information and Edelweiss Evacuation Map.
Avoid parking in high/dry grass: Catalytic converters, hot exhaust systems and tailpipes have caused many wildfires.
NOAA and Okanogan County Evacuation Levels
Red Flag Warnings are issued by the National Weather Service (NOAA), and can a current forecast, including if a Red Flag Warning exists.
Red Flag warnings can be found HERE (these alerts will be found near the top of the page, under: Hazardous Weather Conditions).
Burn ban information can be found HERE.
A red flag warning is NOT a notice of evacuation. It means that critical fire-related weather conditions are occurring or will occur shortly. A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity and warm temperatures contribute to extreme fire behavior which might lead to an evacuation. During red flag events, the Okanogan County Electric Co-op (OCEC) may cut power to Edelweiss, and they will reinstate power only after a manual inspection of their power network, so power outages should be expected and can last longer than usual.
Evacuation Levels in Okanogan County
LEVEL 1: ADVISORY: Residents are warned that current or projected threats from hazards associated with the approaching fire(s)/flood(s)/ are present.
LEVEL 2: BE READY: Conditions indicate a strong possibility that hazards associated with the approaching fire(s)/flood(s) will severely limit the ability of emergency crews to provide emergency service protection.
YOU MUST BE PREPARED TO LEAVE AT MOMENT’S NOTICE. THIS MAY BE THE ONLY NOTICE YOU RECEIVE. Be aware of your surroundings and take appropriate actions and supplies.
LEVEL 3: IMMEDIATE EVACUATION: Current conditions present specific and immediate threat(s) to the life and safety of persons within the Level 3 Evacuation area. Conditions indicate that the hazards associated with the incident will severely limit the ability of emergency crews to provide emergency service protection.
During a severe fire season, be prepared to evacuate with a ‘go bag’ and other supplies until the fire season has resolved. Also, be sure to prepare your home and property accordingly should you unexpectedly need to evacuate, or be away from your home for extended periods of time during the fire season.
